With DotA2 becoming the game for the majority of CTs, we felt it was high time it got it's own forum for general discussion and what not. WOOT!

DOTA 2 is a MOBA, or multi-online battle arena. There are many different MOBA's now, including LoL, HoN, Demigod, even Monday Night Combat (although it is a hybrid) among others, including the namesake, Defense of the Ancients: Allstars (or DOTA 1). DOTA 1 was a mod on warcraft 3 that was created in 2003 and gained popularity through 2005-2008, popularity that held up until the release of the DOTA 2 Beta. DOTA 1 is the game that popularized the MOBA game type, and it is often credited with being the first MOBA ever, but that last part is not true.
Moba games are games in which a player controls a specific hero on a team of players also controlling specific heroes. The games are generally 5v5 (and currently in DOTA they are only 5v5), but they do not have to be. Both teams of 5 players have NPC bases consistening of towers and unit spawning buildings, as well as a throne. The ultimate goal in the game is to destroy the other teams thrones. Both bases continually spawn NPC units, known as creeps, at each other. The creeps are equal in strength, and, in DOTA (not necessarily other MOBAS) they cannot be upgraded, so really the purpose of the creeps is to provide an economy in terms of both gold and exp that the heroes use to determine the game. Heroes get gold from killing creeps, destroying buildings, and killing (or assisting) on enemy heroes. There are currently 90 unique heroes (with more in development), many different possible play styles, and a very high skill ceiling and learning curve in DOTA 2. Its an extremely fun game and quite a few CTs are playing it. Its also made by Valve (huge plus) and its free to play, so there is really no reason to not check it out! WARNING: The low skill levels of the DOTA community are notoroius for being awful people, as you win more games and get better at the game, subsequently playing with better people, it gets a lot better but never fully goes away. The game is so complex that an ignorant player may berate you for doing something wrong, when he doesn't even actually know where the problem originated. Because of that, getting into DOTA on your own can be EXTREMELY taxing to your patience, I advise if you are interested in playing the game that you do so with friends and in a community, otherwise you will find it extremely taxing to your patience.

The only MOBA I've ever played is Demigod >.>
It didn't last much more than a year or two after launch due to some connection problems at launch day + bad matchmaking + long time fixing bugs, but it was pretty as fuck. Beat LoL/HoN to the punch to for a standalone of its type _________________

I would really prefer if you did not. While I am not responsible for its creation, I am extremely glad this forum is here. I already have lots of content that I am planning on writing and posting on here, such as guides, strategy talk, etc. The games forum we already have is about general games related posts, "hey have you heard of this game i'm excited about?" "Hey have you guys seen this epic thing these one guys did?" It isn't really a place where people who play DotA can break it down and really analyze it. Plus, there are plenty of people in the clan who hate/don't play DotA 2. If we have a DotA forum then people like Vlad who despise the game can treat it the way I treat the math forum 99% of the time. The general games forum has things of interest to everyone, so people who hate the game may check the forum and get frustrated like "atatme has posted 3495849584 fucking guides i hate this dota shit lets get it off of here" whereas if we have our own forum that you are in no way required to look at, you really have no reason to bitch

They go for about a key as well (either dota or tf2 key, they are both $2.50)
