P4 Prescott

I have been reading around about them, and people seem to be pretty torn about how much better they really are. Some are calling it the P5, others are saying it isn't that much better.

So, what's the opinion of all you tech gurus?

Let me just tell you this from personal experience - having a prescott is like having an oven. It's the hottest out-of-box processor ever Neutral

It's definately a better P4, but still inferior to Pentium D and most AMD's... not sure why anyone would ever call it a P5. Prescott series is nothing new nor anything special.

u can get a 3700+ san diego core(formerly the fx-51) for like 230 bucks

how much is a prescott?

Alright, I settled on a mobo that the socket 478 p4 prescott. It was about $60, and the processor i settled on was about $180.
The mobo was an asus P4S800D-X w/ an agp slot, 5 pci slots, 2 ata-133 ports, 2 sata 150 ports w/ RAID 1/0, integrated audio (ADI AD1888), an integrated ethernet port, 2 ps/2, 4 usb, etc. etc.
And the processor is a 3.0ghz p4 with hyper threading and 800mhz fsb.

I think it should tide me over for a couple of years Smile
