Not everyone reacts positively to older games. You have an emotional attachment to them that never goes away. So when others play it, they may get bored.

Self-Example: I never played OoT until it came out on the 3DS. I see how influential the game is, and how people could spend so much time on it. It wasn't for me, it lies in my box of games I have never beaten. This isn't to say its a bad game, but it didn't hook me. Maybe it had to do with my age, or maybe the age of the game. The point is this: You may be disappointed in how people react when they play games that you grew up with.

There are older games that are amazing. Games I have never played. Yet, I know they are amazing. But if I pick up a controller and play... say Metroid. I won't get hooked.

Why?

Because it's past it's time. It's not me being a 5 yr old playing on a Friday night. Nowadays, it's all techy, all hyper realism and I hate it. I am so sick and tired of games that are flashy and uninteresting. How many more modern warfare games can they make? Ffs.

So, I want my kid to go through a "video game education". He doesn't have to love it as much as I do. To preserve the culture we know, we need to educate our little ones. So for the first few years of his life, he'll play the consoles I grew up with as I still have them all.

If your kid grew up 20 years from now, what kind of games would he drool over? Halo 4? Battlefield 3? Mario Galaxy 2...? Pokemon Diamond...? I get really sad thinking about it.

They will make one modern warfare game for every Mario Party. In all seriousness, modern shooters are easy to make and sell well. gaming is no longer an exclusive club (which is better, IMO), and as a result we got more of these terrible games. We also have gems such as Dishonored, Skyrim, Pokemon Black and White.

Look, its your theoretical kid. I won't tell you how to raise him, but FFS let them make their own choices man. Let them play Windwaker if they wants over Ocarina of Time.

Here is my biggest thing: I have played the original Mario during its time, I have played Sonic, Felix the cat. bomberman. I got started in online gaming with Halo for the xbox, then the PC. That brought me to CS:S, WoW, and SC:BW. I have fond memories of those games, and those are MY memories. I want my kid to have their own memories. If they grow up playing Modern Shooters, shitty RTS games, and Guild Wars 2. That is their memories, man. I don't want to take them away. Will I make my favorite games available? You bet your sweet ass I will. Here is the thing though, those are MY games, and while yeah they could be great as OUR games, he still needs to have HIS games. His first game isn't going to be my first game unless he chooses to.

Also, there is nothing wrong with any of the Pokemon games, ever, at all.
